Courage Cowl

$5.50

A two colour, fingering weight, knitted cowl with chevron lace and striped panels.

As we move through the seasons of our life, people come and go. If we are lucky, the very best soul-matches are the ones who stay constant.

These friends can calm our soul when needed and provide strength to help us through difficult times; friends who always seem to know exactly what we need before we even realise it. Certainly, these connections are our chosen family for whom even distance and separation will make no difference.

This pattern was inspired by a very good friend of mine who fits this description exactly. She gave me a beautiful Aquamarine pendant and the soothing pale green of the Prickly Pear colourway in this cowl matches it perfectly. Aquamarine is said to have soothing properties; its calming energy is supposed to quiet the mind, ease stress and give courage.

Courage Cowl uses alternating sections of Chevron Lace and two-colour stripes. It begins with a provisional cast-on and ends with kitchener stitch to make a seamless accessory. Knitted in a relatively loose gauge, the fabric is soft and light with a beautiful drape.

You can easily adapt for size by adding or deleting any of the sections, or adding stitches to make your cowl wider if desired. Helpful notes are given in the pattern. It should be noted that a change to size will also change your yarn requirement. The sample was knitted in two colours but this is also a great project to use up scraps or mini skeins in the transitioning sections. A beautiful fade through the lace sections would also work very well.
