Hi! I’m Joanne!
I’m the Chief Knitting Officer and Morale Booster of Snowy Thistle Knits.

A Little Bit About The Face Behind the Knitting.

I am a Scottish knitter, now transplanted to Nova Scotia, Canada, where I live with my husband and three children. I’ve been creating knitting patterns since 2019 with an emphasis on intricate details. I’m drawn to lace and cable techniques and love to use them to convey stories in my designs. I like to keep my patterns easy to follow so they are interesting to knit and effortless to wear. My goal is to design garments and accessories which elevate your outfit each day, and add a touch of simple elegance.
I’m always looking for something new to learn and find joy in teaching these fibre skills to others. I think we should all be given the opportunity to find the happiness that is here in the fibre world!
I describe my design style as Cosy. Is that a style? Of course it is!

I struggle with anxiety and find my knitting remains a constant comfort to my busy brain. Knitting is so good for mental health! The regular and repetitive movement of the needles is very calming to our thoughts. And as an added bonus, we get that feeling of exhilaration when we sew in the last end and that project becomes a Finished Object!
(Side note: you don’t need to sew in your ends for your project to be finished….if you don’t want to sew them in, that’s ok!! It’s finished when you say it is!)

Besides knitting, I can be found reading a good book, looking for treasures on a quiet forest walk, or eating. And I’m a big fan of sarcasm (show me a Scot who isn’t…).

Values

People living on this earth deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Indeed, every person should express themselves however they choose to do so. With this in mind, this space is one of inclusion and acceptance. Humans of every race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability and religion are welcome here. Above all, I will not tolerate hate speech of any kind.
